Ka Lei Maile Academy: We provide daily living necessities for students and their families. We are also assisting the Academy with the plans for building a kitchen facility.

Kūhiō Elementary School: In conjunction with Alu Like’s Native Hawaiian Library Literacy Program, He Mea Ho‘ohiwahiwa Na Ali‘i (To Honor the Chiefs) we participated in Kūhiō Elementary’s read aloud day. The purpose was to encourage the students to strive to be lifelong learners and to enjoy reading.

Food Bank of Hawaii: We continue to give non-perishable food and monetary donations to the Food Bank.

Friends of the Falls of Clyde: We are assisting the Friends of the Falls of Clyde with their acquisition of the Falls of Clyde and the Hawaii Maritime Museum from the Bishop Museum.

PKHCC Choral Group: Our choral group continues to do wonderful community service through song. They are PKHCC’s ambassadors of Aloha.

Parade Float Building: Through the efforts and guidance of David Ka‘ahaa‘ina, Richard Jackson, David Kawanakoa, Libert O’Sullivan, Ray Chung, Miki Bower and many other members we continue to share the tradition of float building. We construct the Mo‘i float for the Kamehameha Day parade and the Royal Court float for Aloha Week.

Education Programs:
Scholarships: In keeping with our mission of promoting the education of Hawaiians, PKHCC awards continuing education scholarships. This year we awarded 27 scholarships totaling over $27,000… We are very proud of the four awardees that graduated this year:

Pili Keala, UH-Manoa, Education
Jasmine Lloyd, University of the Pacific, Thomas J Long School of Pharmacy
Mana Moriarty, UH-Manoa Graduate School of Law
Chris Nakahashi, UH-Manoa, Graduate School of Botany

In recognition of Kevin Akana and Akana Trucking’s years of generosity of donating a flatbed truck for the Kamehameha Parade’s Mo‘i and the Royal Court float for the Aloha Week Parade, it was with heartfelt appreciation that the Board of Directors and members unanimously agreed to designate one of the scholarships awarded to a graduate student as the Ione Peters Akana Scholarship. This year’s recipient is Chris Nakahashi who is pursuing his doctorate degree in botany.

Speakers: The guest speakers we have had address the membership during our general meetings have expanded our vision of the assists and needs within the Hawaiian community. Our speakers were

Community Involvement: Repatriation of Mokapu Iwi Kūpuna: We believe it is our kuleana to be the watchful and mindful of the well-being of our kūpuna. We are supporting the claimants with their efforts to work with the United States Marine Corps Kaneohe in the repatriation of the Mokapu Iwi Kūpuna.

Honolulu High-Capacity Transit Corridor Project: We are concerned that Hawaiian cultural sites are preserved along the transit corridor. We are participating as a consulting party in drafting the programmatic agreement. Today, through our outreach programs, education programs, community involvement, service activities and practice we hope to ensure a joy-filled Hawaiian future.
