This year we started with the birthday celebration of Queen Emma at Mauna ‘Ala, and later supported Queen Medical Center in commemorating her 173th birthday anniversary. Club members were involved in the Ceded Lands rally held at Kapiolani Park and attended the Ceded Lands hearings at the State Legislature this session. We attended the scholarship workshops at Windward Community College to obtain knowledge on scholarship opportunities. Sponsored by Hawaii Maoli, members attended workshops relating to historic sites and thereafter took a hike along the Likeke Trail with members of the Koolaupoko HCC led by Mahealani Cypher. We also attended the 175th birthday commemoration of King Kamehameha IV. We marched in the Kūhiō Day Parade operated a stew, salad and rich booth to raise club funds at Kapiolani Park. We participated in the annual Diabetes Walkathon aiding the walkers at water stop venues.

In May, members attended a workshop at the Hawaii Maoli office that focused on web-site development in connection with historic sites being cared for by 5 civic clubs including Queen Emma HCC. In June, club members met with members of Ewa Puuloa HCC and heard interesting stories of the background history of the Ewa Puuloa ahupua’a.

In June, a fundraising event to raise funds for scholarships was held at St.Timothy’s church in Aiea. The scholarship awardees this year went to:

In July, several club members attended the 150 anniversary of Queens Medical Center to commemorate the many contributions that Queens has provided to the community with services at Mauna’Ala and also later that day attended the ceremonies at the Queens Medical Center facility. In July, a food booth was set up to offer stew, rice and beverages at the annual Prince Lot Festival at Moanalua Gardens to raise funds for those attending the upcoming annual convention on Maui. In October, members participated in clean up of the UluhaiMālama Gardens to help to maintain this historic site.
