Kai `Ula Pono`i Texas Hawaiian Civic Club 2013
Welina e kakou,
Our hui has been busy this year even though several of our members were ill. It has been challenging but to my pleasant surprise we were able to participate in quite a few events. On Feb 9th, members attended the Association for Social Anthropology in Oceania Conference which was held in San Antonio. Pelekikena Moniz gave a speech on "Being Hawaiian on the Continent". On February 16th, members had a booth at the Asian Pacific Festival at UTSA, San Antonio. On February 23rd, members attended the White House Initiative AAPI Texas Regional Conference in Houston. On March 15th, members had a potluck gathering at the Watson residence. On March 29th, members attended a dinner sponsored by the Hawaii Club of San Antonio. On April 20th, members had a Health Booth at the Aloha Fiestaval, Lady Bush Park, San Antonio, Texas. On May 3rd, members set up a Hawaiian display at Randolph Air Force Base, San Antonio in celebration of Asian Pacific Islander Month. On June 6,7, 8th, members had a informational booth at the Texas Folklife Festival, UTSA, San Antonio. On June 22nd, members participated in Keola's Halau Fundraiser in Dallas. On November 8th, members will be supporting Nani Na Pua Ilima who is sponsoring a Hula Workshop that is being presented by Kumu Mapuana and Kihei deSilva. There has been inquiries on How to from a Civic Club from Austin, Texas, hopefully they will be join us our Mainland Council and AHCC ‘ohana next year.
