Kalihi-Palama Hawaiian Civic Club 2012
by Leimomi Khan

Living the motto of our founders, club members have come together to build our club. Through the OHA Ho’olako grant, we have sponsored some cultural activities which has increased our capacity. Membership grew by 15 new members and knowledge of our culture enhanced by presentations by Cissy Serrao on Hawaiian Quilting; Aunty Gladys Roderhurst on Noni; Kawika Molina on Lei ‘Ano’Ano; and entry in the Prince Kuhio Commemorative Parade and the King Kamehameha Floral Parade. We honored members, former governor John Waihe'e III; Ladd Heleloa; and Pauline Namu'o. Our Helen Kane Award recipient was member, Mel Cup Choy. Our major civic engagement project was voter registration and service project was cleanup of Mauna 'Ala. Members also volunteered for the Prince Kuhio Festival and King Kamehameha Celebration activities. Our initial home base was Bishop Museum, but we are not back to our original home in the Kamehameha IV Housing area.

We’re happy to be here at the 2012 AHCC Convention and send our mahalo and congratulations to the AHCC and Mainland Council.
