Community Interaction/Services: Awarded three keiki cultural/educational scholarships; entertained at rehabilitation/long-term care and senior residence facilities; conducted an ukulele workshop/performance in conjunction with the May 2012 Utah Pasifika Festival; and, along with other groups, hosted a visiting halau hula.
Activities: Gracious Ladies hula group on-going throughout the year; staffed BYU football concession booth for fundraising opportunities; in conjunction with the Ho'olako grant award, conducted a six-month ukulele learning course, which involved as many as 20 haumana on some evenings; partnered with Hui Hawai'i o Utah, the Hawaiian Cultural Center, and Kalea Canoe Club for an annual 'ohana retreat, and provided ipu and kala'au making and hula workshops; participated in the annual Iosepa (one of the state's historical sites) Memorial Day weekend event; conducted a ribbon lei making workshop; kept abreast with and participated in community health fairs, blog now operational; realized a 26% membership increase.
Affiliations: Regular participants with the Hawaiian Cultuiral Center and all its cultural community activities.
Goals: Continue efforts to increase membership, monthly general membership meetings to always have a na mea experience, and seek out and partner with other Hawaiian groups in the Utah Valley in accomplishing our mutual positive objectives.
