Aloha Kakou!

As members of the Mainland Council, 'Ahahui Kiwila o Hawai'i of San Diego extends our aloha to all the clubs that will be joining us in Washington, D.C. It is with great pleasure that we are able to represent our membership as we do the work of the Association and take with us our experience that can be shared with 'Ahahui.

Our membership started their first meeting in January 2012 with nominations and installation of their new officers along with cultural and academic scholarship awards. The club members also celebrated in the farewell luncheon ceremonies with the Vaka crew as they made their journey back to the South Pacific.

The month of February was the first of Mainland Concil-meeting for several of our new officers. At this Las Vegas, Nevada meeting, we were particularly in awe of Dr. Beverly A. Brownings workshop on “Grant Writing for Dummies”. It was an exciting workshop and we were enthusiastic over he content of the meeting. December, January and February were planning months for the first Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalaniana'ole Pi'ikoi Celebration held on Saturday, March 24, 2012. It was a huge success and those who contributed to its success were: 'Ahahui ‘O Lili'uokalani Hawaiian Civic Club-Cerritos, Ca., 'Ainahau 'o Kaleponi Hawaiian Civic Club-Huntington Beach, Ca., Las Vegas Hawaiian Civic Club-Las Vegas, NV., Lau Kanaka no Hawai'i Civic Club-Tempe, Arizona and Kaha I Ka Panoa Kaleponi Hawaiian Civic Club-Morena Valley, Ca.. Other supporting clubs joining in the celebration were: Lei Hulu of California, Hui O Hawai'i of San Diego, Hawai'i Daughters of California and many local business organizations.

We look forward to March 2013 to celebrate once again in the spirit of “aloha”.

The month of April was the planning month for additional fundraising events throughout the balance of 2012. These events are: May 5/6, 2012 - San Diego Ho'olaule'a - Mission Bay Park, June 16, 2012 General membership meeting-presentation of 5 academic Scholarships and 3 Cultural Scholarships. June 29-July 1, 2012 three additional Cultrual Scholarships were awarded to Pacific American Academy to attend 'Ohana Retreat sponsored by 'Ainahau 'O Kaleponi at University of California Irvine, Irvine Ca. July 21/22,2012 Hawaiian Interclub Council of So. California 37th annual Ho'olaulea Boutique booth, August 18/19, 2012 Beaumont Ho'olaule'a Hawaiian Food booth, September 8/9, 2012, Retreat to review Bylaws to align with AOHCC, review of Resolutions for October Convention pre-planning for 2013. September 21/22, 2012 San Diego Pacific Islander Festival Association Food Booth.

It is the concensus of the board to increase membership and improve awarenes of the Civic Club movement in San Diego and the Continent. It is the importance of effective policy making for Hawaiians in San Diego and the continent to address education, health, housing, socio-economics and issues that affect Hawaiians.
